that ltrg download was downloading fast then it got stuck then resumed so it took longer than usual. found out it was a rar'd private torrent (those fucking suck). someone just unrared it and made a torrent out of that single file.
but enough about the torrent. how was the movie? i asked a couple people i know and they said "it was good." couldn't give me a reason why. you know how it goes. one of those friends said she was confused by the movie (neither read the comic) and still said it was good. gimme a fuckin' break. only one person shit on it. but i've been wanting to see it for a while now, regardless of the lackluster box office and negative reviews. this is a movie you're either gonna like or not like. i wanna choose the middle ground but at the same time, i can't recommend anyone see this 3 damn hour movie cuz it's unsatisfying. it's like expecting good sex but while you're fucking, you realize the pussy or dick ain't all that. the climax and early parts of the denouement are okay, i'll admit, but the events leading up to them, not so much.
the basic theme stays true to the comic. there's scenes in the movie right out of the comic. but there's also a lot of unecessary stuff like the gore (which i didn't mind), overstylized fight scenes, and the overuse of goddamned slow motion. zack could shave 30 minutes off the runtime if he just let shit play out in real time. thank the matrix for all this slo-mo shit, especially during fight scenes, in movies these days.
alan moore was right. the comic should have remained a comic. it doesn't translate well onscreen. maybe if they ditched the costumes it could be taken more seriously. as it is, it's kinda hokey. he should have never attempted a direct adaptation cuz of that. rorschach's speaking voice is way too comic booky along with dr. manhattan and ozymandius. speaking of doc manhattan, he looks like they modeled him after timothy olyphant. and yep, his little blue schlong is clearly visible in many a scene. it ain't distracting. actually, it gives a little more authenticity to the movie. but not enough.
they did a good job portraying rorschach's character regardless of his raspy voice. the movie is indeed confusing in places cuz some exposition is absent, like janey slater and the original minutemen. they should've explored them more since they were in the movie or just left them out completely. trying to do everything to please everybody don't always work. don't expect any monsters to appear. i can see why they didn't go that route. and the prosthetics were horrible along with the blatant 80's music. hey, don't get me wrong, i love my 80's sounds, but not the way they were used here.
one thing that hurts this movie a lot is that it's based on a comic and comes across too comicky rather than standing on its own. the watchmen comic is one entity. this movie should've been another. instead, it's more of a companion to the comic. you know how movies and cartoon stories are adapted into comic form and they fail? this is how that is but in reverse. it shouldn't have been that type of movie. but it's in the history books now. i rate it 5 out of 10 stars. i don't recommend it, whether you've read the comic or not. i own it and did read it long before zack was ever attached to it. it's a masterpiece. ditch this flick and read that instead. it'll be a better experience for you. 300 was a room number in the opening sequence. c'mon zack, stupid shit like that don't help.
